I don't see this hike as kid-friendly, and the waves are beautiful, but as you're reenacting that picture from "The Little Mermaid" please be careful not to be swept out to sea. It's one of our favorites so I assumed this would be as easy I was wrong! ![]() We've lived on the island for a year, and done the Makapu'u Lighthouse trail at least 15 times. (If you're doing this, go up the paved lighthouse trail to the 3rd whale watching spot and look for the white arrows and dots painted on the rocks.) We stupidly took the trail to the shoreline from the parking lot, and then climbed around the coast to the pools. We hiked to the tide pools in a less conventional way. ![]()
